Expanding clutches and brakes

Danfoss expanding clutches concentrate the frictional force on the inner drum to achieve torque. They are primarily used as slip clutches or tension brakes, and they provide uniform contact velocity, self-adjustment, and fast, continuous heat dissipation.

E are ideal for handling the large thermal loads of medium-speed cyclic applications but can also serve as a general power transmission.

  • Expanding centrifugal clutch
  • Allows for dual element assemblies
  • Provides excellent slip clutch service when coupled with an air-agitating, ventilated drum
  • Reinforced spring slots accommodate large spring force
  • Split side housings simplify maintenance in applications with limited axial access
  • Torque capacities up to 114,000 Nm [1,010,000 lb-in]
  • Available in 10 sizes

EB are ideal for applications with light starting loads and have elements that behave as a centrifugal clutch.

  • Expanding centrifugal clutch
  • Ideal for light starting loads
  • Torque capacities up to 5,090 Nm [45,000 lb-in]
  • Available in 11 sizes

ER thrive in applications that require disconnection without stopping the prime move and when the driving/driven equipment must be frequently withdrawn.

  • Large torque in a small package
  • Expanding centrifugal clutch
  • Torque capacities up to 13,300 Nm [118,000 lb-in]
  • Available in 10 sizes

VE have a special heat-dissipating design that excels in medium-speed cyclic applications.

  • Provides excellent slip clutch service when coupled with an air-agitating, ventilated drum
  • Allows for dual element assemblies
  • Cooler airflow and better heat dissipation
  • Ideal for moderate to heavy-duty service
  • Torque capacities available up to 24,950 Nm [221,000 lb-in]
  • Available in three sizes
Type Torque range (Nm) [lb-in] Speed range (rpm)
E 1,277 - 25,422 [11,300 - 225,000] 1,800 - 525
EB 44 - 251 [390 - 2,220] 1,800 - 1,800
